Vietnam coffee H1 2026: more tonnes, lower average export value
The first half of 2026 is a useful reminder that volume growth and revenue growth are not the same business story.

A market reset
VietnamPlus reported that Vietnam exported about 1.1 million tonnes of coffee worth US$4.78 billion in the first half of 2026. Volume increased 9.7% year on year while export value fell 14.4%. The average export price was reported at roughly US$4,435 per tonne, down 22% year on year.
Why the data matters to buyers
For importers, the reset creates opportunity but also demands more precise benchmarking. A lower average export price does not mean every origin, screen, process or contract month has moved equally. Procurement should compare like with like and track physical differentials separately from futures or broad national averages.
The strategic move
For Vietnamese suppliers, the data strengthens the case for moving beyond undifferentiated volume. Better preparation, traceability, specialty lots, product development, packaging and private label can protect value when commodity averages soften. For buyers, these same capabilities create reasons to build longer supplier relationships rather than trade purely on spot price.
