Food traceability in Vietnam is becoming a data architecture issue

New rules and database work point toward more structured traceability expectations for food businesses.

Food traceability in Vietnam is becoming a data architecture issue

The 2026 regulatory direction

The Ministry of Industry and Trade announced Circular 11/2026/TT-BCT on food traceability, including a one-step-back, one-step-forward principle and requirements to establish and store relevant traceability information. In August 2026 the ministry also published a draft circular concerning a food database under its management.

What this means for coffee and matcha businesses

Even when a particular product or activity falls under different competent authorities, the operational lesson is similar: batch identity, supplier records, production information and downstream customer records should live in a structured system rather than fragmented spreadsheets and messages.

Build traceability before buyers demand it

For exporters, stronger traceability improves more than compliance. It makes complaint investigation, sample-to-production matching, supplier management and certification workflows faster. A clean data model can become part of sales credibility.
