Vietnam tea exports in 2025: the context behind the matcha opportunity
Vietnam already has a broad tea base. Matcha is an opportunity to move the conversation toward deeper processing and higher-value applications.

A substantial tea industry
Vietnam.vn reported that Vietnam exported 136,952 tonnes of tea worth nearly US$238 million in 2025. The article also noted growing interest in organic, regional and origin-linked tea products. Public export statistics are generally reported for tea categories rather than matcha as a standalone line, so buyers should be cautious about treating broad tea data as direct matcha-supply data.
Where matcha fits
Matcha requires more than milling green tea. Raw material, cultivation practice, steaming or fixation route, color retention, particle size, sensory profile, microbial control and storage all matter. The opportunity for Vietnam is therefore not simply to redirect existing tea volume, but to build specific processing and quality systems for powdered-tea applications.
What importers should verify
Ask about raw-material region, processing line, grind specification, color references, sensory standard, contaminants and microbiology, packaging barrier and sample-to-production consistency. Treat grade names as commercial shorthand until supported by actual specification and testing.
